Angela Fanning Counsellor

Angela is New Zealand born of Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Kahungunu and European descent. She brings over 20 years of experience in the counselling field, to working with individuals, couples and as a supervisor and educator.

Angela works with individuals to address issues including: stress: depression and anxiety; life transitions; grief and loss; workplace bullying; and draws on her background in working with the body-mind connection utilising Mindfulness, Person Centred Counselling and methods from the neuro-psychology field.

Angela is an effective relationship therapist: bringing warmth; wisdom; compassion; and a thorough grounding in Imago Relationship Therapy to her work with couples, as she assists them to re-connect with empathy for each other, depth and aliveness.

Angela utilises Discernment Counselling as an adjunct to Imago Relationship Therapy. Working short- term with couples considering separation or divorce, Angela works alongside each partner as they decide where they stand in their relationship and make decisions around their willingness to commit to the work their relationship may need, or to leave.

Angela provides clinical supervision, cultural supervision and consultation to professionals and organisations.

Angela has a passion for the outdoors and being in the magnificence of nature.


Based in Richmond, Nelson, Angela offers her relationship counselling/therapy services throughout the Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough regions. Angela is happy to work with you in person or can work with you online via Zoom.
